I'm joining this group against this recent epic fail DeviantArt has made. Tracing is good for practicing, yes, but it's not art. It's rude to post in a gallery online, and it's copyright infringement.

I don't have that many people watching me, but I figured that I would let you guys know about the failbus that just rolled on through.

This is a phish/account hijack and people are being taken to a site where it is injecting code into the browser and hijacking people's DA accounts, it then sends out 1000s of messages from YOUR account on tons of deviations with that very link and text in it. Do NOT click on ANY link that ends with .php, at ALL. These comments can look as though they come from someone you know on DA! Please be aware folks!!! If you get said message, use the "Report as spam" function and delete the comment then in your message center!"

I really hope none of us come across any of this. If you do, just hit the 'report as spam' button. Don't take any chances, guys!

I recently went to Barnes and Noble, and began looking around at art books. Mainly How to Draw Manga books, because I always seem to find one that has a few tips I could use. This time, I stumbled upon the Summer 2008 Flower issue of Gothic and Lolita Bible [link] I've seen this book online before, usually on J-Box, where they sell the Japanese version. I've been interested in Gothic and Lolita fashions for a while, and figured that I would go ahead and buy it, mainly to look at the modeled photos and candid snapshots of the Harajuku district.

I found that the Gothic and Lolita Bible is what they call a 'mook'. A magazine and a book together in one, having both articles, and lots of pictures. TOKYOPOP translated portions of the Japanese version of the book, and transferred it to the English version, as well as adding American lolita stories, articles, etc. So the balance is about fifty-fifty for content.

After looking through the book a few times, I began to look online at the retailers they noted in Japan that had multilingual sites. All of the sizing is for only one or two sizes that are the most common in Japan, which puts larger people out of the loop of having name brand gothic and lolita clothing. However, there is talk about Japanese companies becoming more interested in America as the love of gothic and lolita fashion rises.

There are a set of patterns in the back of the book, as well as instructions within the pages so you can make your own outfit. There are also different craft ideas that teach you how to make your own accessories, and even the ever-popular magazine test.

I ended up finding two places that make dresses to custom measurements, which is a good thing if I ever feel the need to buy a dress or jumper skirt for going to a convention or lolita event. Yes, I've fallen in love with the style, even though lots of it is pink.

Aside from looking through the book, I decided to go to TOKYOPOP's website to find the Gothic and Lolita Bible's area, to see if they had any blogs or information on upcoming events, just so I can get into the loop. I ended up finding their profile [link] where it lists their blog, and videos about the Gothic and Lolita Bible. Apparently, the quarterly mook just hit the stores February of last year. I want to get the rest of the volumes for last year, and I eagerly await the first volume of 2009.

If any of you, my friends, want to look for it in your nearby bookstore, I'd suggest looking in the art book section, rather than the magazine or culture sections, because the Gothic and Lolita Bible is labeled as an art book, despite it also being a magazine. I just wish I could subscribe to it. If anyone is interested, I also made a TOKYOPOP account under the name SammiGene, so I could keep up with Gothic and Lolita Bible's updates. You should too if you want to keep up with this cute craze.
